Walk In to Work Out

The journey to work is a regular part of many people’s daily life. Nearly three quarters of employed people travel to work in car or van (source: Scottish Transport Statistics, 2003). Reversing this trend and encouraging more people to walk or cycle to work presents a valuable opportunity to increase their level of daily physical activity and benefit from improved health and wellbeing.

One way to encourage people to consider healthier alternatives, such as walking or cycling to work, is to use a resource such as Walk In to Work Out.

The Walk In to Work Out pack has been designed to help people to prepare and plan to start walking or cycling part or all of the way to work. It gives ideas and information on:

  • Why you should become more active
  • Why walking or cycling to work is a good option
  • How to start walking or cycling
  • How to walk or cycle safely
  • Useful contacts

Walk in to work out packs are available from NHS Health Scotland for a small cost.

For further support and information on active travel initiatives see Sustrans, the Scottish Executive’s Choose Another Way website, or Cycling Scotland.
